Thora Vineyard Opens the Door to Swedish Quality Wine
On the scenic Bjäre Peninsula in southern Sweden, where rolling hills meet the sea, lies Thora Vineyard – a gem producing certified organic wines. Grapes such as Pinot Noir, Solaris, and Chardonnay are cultivated here with precision and passion. Now, through fully glazed doors, the craftsmanship is on full display.

“The long summer days and sea breeze give us a unique growing environment. The grapes ripen from mid-May to late September, before being hand-harvested, fermented, and gently aged in Swedish and French oak barrels as well as steel tanks. The season here is shorter than in southern Europe, but far more intense, with many hours of sunlight that give the grapes both strength and character,” says Emma Berto, oenologist and co-owner of Thora Vineyard.
Founders Johan and Heather Öberg planted their first Pinot Noir vines in 2014. Today, the vineyard spans eleven hectares, with 53,000 vines of various grape varieties. Their long-term goal is to expand to 20 planted hectares – a scale where quality and craftsmanship can still go hand in hand.
“Winemaking is a craft, and I’m passionate about the entire process, from the first bud to the last drop. It’s truly inspiring to see how all our hard work is paying off – the vines are thriving and maintaining high quality,” says Emma, who is also responsible for the entire production chain.
Thora Vineyard Scales Up for the Bottles of Tomorrow
To reach its goal of 20 hectares of vineyards, Thora Vineyard has made a long-term investment by constructing a new building that houses a production facility, farm shop, and restaurant. Previously, there was an older farm building on the site that no longer met their needs. Since the area is under cultural heritage protection, the new building couldn’t be larger than the old one. However, the experience has grown – through fully glazed doors, the outdoor environment is now invited in, creating both a sense of openness and a view into the craftsmanship happening inside.
Today, the vineyard produces between 8,000 and 12,000 bottles of wine annually. With the new production facility, there is now capacity to scale up to around 100,000 bottles per year. A single vine typically yields one bottle of wine once it’s between seven and ten years old, which means that this year’s plantings already point toward a future annual production of about 53,000 bottles within that timeframe.

Doors That Combine Function and Design
EAB has delivered and installed five fully glazed doors for the new building. Two are placed in the wooden façade and three inside the production area, all painted in a uniform gray. This cohesive design provides a unified look and valuable natural light. The glass doors visually connect different parts of the production process and enhance the feeling of unity.
“The glazed doors leading into the production area are positioned to the north, which allows us to benefit from natural light without overheating the interior. This gives us a comfortable and stable indoor climate – perfect for production. And creating a pleasant working environment for my staff all year round is very important to me, and I truly feel we’ve achieved that,” says Heather, CEO and founder of Thora Vineyard.
“I’m absolutely thrilled with the glazed doors from EAB – they are exactly the style I envisioned. When it’s time to set the table for a celebration, I’m ready to swap out the wine press for round tables. It’s fantastic to be indoors and still feel so close to nature,” Heather adds with a smile.
“Delivering doors to a place like Thora Vineyard is a perfect example of how our solutions combine function and design. It’s rewarding to see how our doors help create a cohesive space where every detail counts,” says Mattias Mårtensson, sales representative and project manager at EAB Doors.
